Matthew 9:6 KJV
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.
One of the chief lessons of this passage is that the physical healing that took place was secondary to the forgiveness of sins. In fact, Jesus did not begin by healing this man but by forgiving his sins. It was only after the scribes called His forgiving of sins blasphemy that Jesus proved His power by giving this man physical health.
We make too much of physical health, wealth, comfort and the like. So much more valuable is the health, wealth and comfort of the eternal soul. Much damage is done with the Scriptures and huge confusion is brought to the world of unbelievers by those who claim to preach the Bible but place the emphasis on the physical healings that Jesus did and not the spiritual lesson that is behind them.
What a blessing to know that Jesus has power on earth to forgive sins. It is not merely positional. It is practical. It is not only that when we get to heaven the Lord will finally forgive us of our sins. It is not that only once we die and find out if we have "endured to the end" do we know if we are actually saved and have a home in heaven.
We can know today.
We can know right now.
