Ye Know Not What Ye Ask

Mark 10:38 KJV
But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

James and John had a request to make of the Lord and, when He had heard it His response was, "Ye know not what ye ask...."

Our
Prayers of ambition
Prayers for greatness
Prayers for success as the world sees it

Often fall into this same class. We don't really know what we are asking. Such requests stem from a heart that is not yet where John the Baptist was when he said "He must increase but I must decrease."

James and John
This is the James who was martyred under Agrippa.
This is the John who was exiled to the isle of Patmos.

Far better than seeking greatness, either here of in glory, is to seek the Lord. Knowing Christ and walking with Him; having fellowship with the sweet Saviour. That is true greatness.
