Diligent Thinking

Proverbs 21:5 KJV
The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.

John Gill
A man that is thoughtful and studious, and wisely forms schemes in his mind, and diligently pursues them; the issue of it is, generally speaking, prosperity and plenty: such a man is usually thriving and flourishing; and this holds good in things spiritual, as well as in things temporal.

I came to view this passage from two directions;
One, a diligent person thinks.The diligent man puts effort into his thoughts. He is not content with the thoughts that are tossed with the wind of every issue that comes his way. In any given day our minds will be exposed to countless ideas upon which to think. The news will give us things to thing about. Conversations with people will cause us to think. Things that we see as we travel will cause thoughts in our heads. On and on goes the list of influences into our thought life. But the diligent man forces those things to take the back seat in his mind. His thoughts are more purposeful, even if they are more difficult to maintain. He diligently guards those thoughts and works on them.

Two diligent thinking likely produces diligence in living.
As a man disciplines himself to think upon deeper, more meaningful, even more difficult things; as he labors in his life of thought those very thoughts begin to take the form of activity in his life. The reason his thoughts tend to plenteousness is because they produce more than idle imaginations. They produce ideas he turns into realities.
