Of the Lord

Joshua 11:20 KJV
For it was of the LORD to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD commanded Moses.

The Lord gave Israel several cities in supernatural ways. Had God chosen to, God could have caused each of these cities to surrender to Israel. But it was "of the Lord" that these cities would harden their hearts and that they would do battle with Israel.

It is not always of the Lord for us to have peace on earth. There are certain enemies that we are to do battle with all of our lives. We are never to make peace with sin in our flesh. It is of the Lord that we fight it with every ounce of our energy. There will also be times we must do battle with false doctrine or with wolves that creep into God's fold.

We are soldiers. And as good soldiers we will be forced to endure hardness. And that in no way indicates that we are out of the will of God.
