Real Power

Luke 23:24 KJV
And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.

Life always seems to be about the power struggles; who is ultimately in control. It makes perfect sense to me. That was the fruit the serpent offered in the garden, the right of choice.

There was the Sanhedrin
Whom Rome had given pretence of power. They were able to govern over the affairs of Israel, but only in those matters Rome permitted.

There was Rome
They permitted this lame body of Jews and degree of authority because it made it easier for them to hold on to what they thought was control.

There was Pilate
As a representative of Rome here wielded what appeared to be the power. But even he ended up doing what the people required.

The truth of it was that none of them were in control.

There was Jesus
Like a lamb led to slaughter He opened not His mouth. He was treated in the cruelest of manner.

But when everything was said and done the Bible says Jesus laid down His life and took it back again. That is real power.

Man blows a lot of air over power and kicks up a lot of dust over authority. But in the end it is God who is sovereign.
