Jeremiah Was

Jeremiah 47:1 KJV
The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.

The historians have nothing by which they may determine when the judgment here mentioned may have happened. History does not tell us when Pharaoh smote Gaza and we, therefore, have no reference by which to set this. Most assume it happened previous to Babylonian captivity; perhaps as early as when Josiah was killed by the Egyptians.

Let us suppose for a moment that is not when it happened but that this is a judgment against the Philistines after Jeremiah was forcibly taken to Egypt by the remnant of Jews left by Nebuchadnezzar. It would at least fit the order in which we find Jeremiah’s prophecy. In this case, it seems that God used Jeremiah to prophesy against the Philistines and in favor of the Egyptians even though it was a rebellious act of the Jews that led to them being in Egypt. It was in defiance of the Word of God that the Jews compelled Jeremiah to be there. But out of home, and in the hands of sinful people, Jeremiah's ministry saw no end. He continued to be an influence even in terrible circumstances.

I find in this to be an example for the believer today.
Be an influence in the worst of circumstances. Be an influence even when you can't see that you have influence.
  • Be consistent
  • Be faithful
  • Be Biblical
  • Be vocal
  • Be aware
  • Be a witness even when it seems like you have no witness

Jeremiah was.
