What Is "It"?

Jeremiah 33:2 KJV
Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name;

Albert Barnes says the "it" of this verse means "whatsoever the Lord wills" it to mean. That makes perfect sense because it comes out of nowhere. There is no
  • Event
  • Previous prophecy or
  • Subject
to which it can be attached. It means whatever God wants it to mean.

There are an increasing number, even among the ranks of Baptists, whose worldly education insists that everything Scriptural must be in some way rationally understood. If we can't figure it out, it must not be. Those parts of the Bible that do not make sense to us must be errors in the Bible. Those events that can only be explained supernaturally must not be true. Humanity has declared that a thing is true and if the Bible disagrees, the Bible must be wrong.
  • God could not have intervened
  • God could not have made it so
  • God could not will what He pleases without explaining Himself to us

I take exception. God is the Supreme.  "The Lord hath formed it, to establish it." It is whatsoever He wills.
