Why?

Judges 21:3 KJV
And said, O LORD God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel?

These men asked why such a thing had come upon them.
  • Why had Benjamin so sinned that it was necessary to judge them?
  • Why had the judgment become so severe that they were now in danger of the extermination of that entire tribe?
Reading this account, and the account of the whole book of Judges, it is not difficult to see at all. They did every man what was right in his own eyes. No one was obeying God's Word.

It is an observation that very often those who complain "Why?" are those who least wish to obey God. They do things without consulting God, often believing they are doing it in the service of God, and when it goes awry, blame the judgment upon God. Too often they do exactly as these Jews do and, in a rash effort to resolve the trouble they created, do equally evil.

When one finds himself constantly asking "Why?" it may be time to
  • Stop
  • Get some sound counsel and
  • Start obeying the Bible

rather than his own ideas of right and wrong
