Prophet vs Prophet

Jeremiah 25:15 KJV
For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.

Jeremiah the prophet spent much of his ministry in conflict with other prophets, including this Hananiah.
  • Jeremiah had heard from God. His message was meant to save the people.
  • Hananiah and others like him had found the value of religion. His message was meant to procure the favor of leadership and the popular opinion for personal benefit.
Every preacher of God's Word finds himself in that same battle today. There are those, however sincere they may believe themselves to be, who have stepped away from serving God in preference to serving the popular movement. They are cogs in the machine of a Christian program and their first priority is the success of the program because that is what brings them the greatest personal success. The preacher must stand in opposition to that. His task is to bring people to the truth of God's Word. He seeks their salvation and not his comfort.

Hananiah lost the one thing he was after. So too it will be for those preachers who sell themselves to religious movements. Seeking success in this world, they will find they have lost true treasure in heaven.
