It Is God To Whom We Look

Numbers 20:10 KJV
And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

Moses was in a vulnerable spot.
·       He was getting old,
·       His sister had just died and
·       The congregation now going on forty years of following God through the wilderness (and having every need met) once again murmured against Moses for leading them out of Egypt.
By this time almost all of those who had refused to believe God at Kadesh-Barnea had died. This is the new generation and they are as rebellious as their parents.

Moses and Aaron did as they had always done and sought direction from God to meet the current need. This time, however, Moses and Aaron claimed credit for the miracle God was about to do and, in so doing, implied credit for forty years of miraculous provision.

God met the need but Moses and Aaron met their end. The people were too prone to worshipping the creature rather than the Creator to ignore this breech.

Moses, no doubt, was a great man. But the greatest of men are still only men.
·       It is God we worship.
·       It is God we serve.

·       It is God to whom we look.
