The Greatest Thing a Man May be Known For

Deuteronomy 4:6-8 KJV
Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

The wisdom of the people of Israel and the greatness of their nation was the Word of God. There is no greater wisdom that a man may have. Though he may know many things and apply that knowledge for success and good; wisdom, in its largest sense, is God's Word. Therefore the study of the Word of God, and the practice of keeping that Word is the greatest thing a man can apply himself to.

A man may be known for
·       bravery
·       wealth
·       success
·       athleticism
·       genius
·       patriotism
·       cleverness

and many other things. The greatest thing a man may be known for is sound understanding of the Bible and diligent practice thereof.
