John 19:8-9 (KJV) A Step of Faith

John 19:8-9 (KJV)
When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid; And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
It is amazing how many things a man can ignore on his way to rejecting Jesus. Pilate:
  • Ignored the prejudice of the Jews who wouldn’t define themselves by entering his chamber; he went out to meet them with Jesus in their custody
  • Found no fault in Christ after interrogating him concerning being a king
  • Ignored the pleading of his wife who told him to have nothing to do with Jesus
  • Ignored that Agrippa could find nothing to charge him of
  • Was immediately afraid when he heard Jesus is the Son of God
but still delivered Christ to the will of the Jews.
I find it interesting that Pilate became concerned about the last of these, returning not to ask Jesus if he was the son of God but to ask, “Whence art thou?” He wanted to know if Jesus came from heaven. It is to this question that Jesus remained silent.
The fact is that if a person is determined to reject Christ no amount of evidence will convince him otherwise. At some point faith has to step in. For some the step of faith happens sooner than for others.
The step must be taken or salvation never happens.
