1 Timothy 5:4 (KJV) Keep Family Close

1 Timothy 5:4 (KJV)
But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
Several different study tools told me that the word nephew has changed in meaning. The consensus is that it’s meaning is extended family. This would include not only what we think of as nephews but most probably grandchildren.
My children have taken great responsibility in helping to care for their grandparents when they can. They have helped repair their homes and care for their things. They were intimately involved in the final days of their grandfather and with the services of his funeral.
This kind of care for extended family implies and necessitates a closeness and connectedness that is sorely missing in American culture. We have allowed the family to disintegrate, and with it, the faith of our fathers.
