2 Peter 1:1 (KJV) Have You Got It?

2 Peter 1:1 (KJV)
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
I am interested in the Word “obtained.”
Our saving faith is precious. The worth of salvation is estimated in the judgment from which it saves us. This is no small thing. Eternal hell is at issue. To be rescued from such is of more value than we can possibly calculate.
Our saving faith is commonThere is only one way to the Father and that is through Jesus. It is the way Peter came to the Father. It is the same way all of the apostles came to the Father. It is the same way Peter’s original audience came to the Father. It is the way each of us must come to the Father.
Our saving faith was obtainedIt does not automatically belong to anyone. All who have it have obtained it. At one time they were without it and at some point in their life they received it.
Neither were any elected to it. It wasn’t chosen for them. It was given to them.
The word means something like, “to receive by lot.” This does not mean that it was by chance. What it expresses is that it is a small number who gain it. It is a grace bestowed upon a few and not a mercy showered upon all.
Have you obtained this faith?
Come to Jesus. He promises not to turn you away.
