Ezekiel 14:1-3 (KJV) Best They Repent

Ezekiel 14:1-3 (KJV)
Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?
Here is a strange scene indeed. The prophet of God is there, ready to deliver his message from God. Into the auditorium (if I may frame the scene in modern embellishments) come certain men of note.
  • Who they are we do not know. But God does.
  • Why they have come we do not know. But God does.
They sit down before the preacher, as I imagine it, in the front row. They seek prominence. They likely intend to intimidate the preacher by their presence. They want to hear every word, nothing distracting them, so that they have the more to accuse him of.
The Lord speaks to the preacher to tell him He has no message for them.I’ve known a number of people, perhaps much like these. They think highly of themselves and believe others should think highly of them too. They may have a pretense of spirituality but they do not know the Lord and they are deeply into sin.
These have no message from God. They may attend a church service and hear a sermon but God refuses to speak to them.
  • Best they repent.
  • Best that they confess to God their sins and lean on Christ for salvation.
Only then will God have something to say to them.
