Ezekiel 20:25 (KJV) This Won’t Turn Out Good

Ezekiel 20:25 (KJV)
Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;
God had given Israel something unique and unlike anything in the world. Their laws, religion, and customs set them apart in the world. But their children didn’t appreciate what they had. They rebelled against God (vs 21) and returned to practices similar to those of Egypt and the other nations around them. It was then that God said He gave them statutes that were not good.
I believe this means He allowed them to make their own way, their own:
  • Laws,
  • Religious system and
  • Customs
He let them establish their own values and moral code. He let them, as it were, be their own gods.
And it destroyed them.
I see a similar thing among young believers these days. God did a wonderful thing among Independent Baptists. He gave us:
  • Clear understanding of the Bible,
  • A practical way to worship Him, and
  • A testimony of faith and concern for souls
But our children, the generation coming up, wasn’t content with that. They wanted to make their own way. They did it by returning to the old Protestant way. They have embraced the old Calvinism and style themselves as the Reformed.
They have developed raucous life choices with:
  • Beer drinking theology sessions
  • Tattooed men’s activities
  • Loud and modern musical styles
All the while claiming scholarly and careful Bible study.
They have rebelled against what their fathers gave them and in so doing have rebelled against God.
The end of the thing will not be good.
