Hebrews 11:13-16 (KJV) Eyes On The Prize

Hebrews 11:13-16 (KJV)
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
The way these survived their struggles was the same for each, they focused on the promise of God for eternity.
  • They did not pine for the past
  • They did not linger in the present
  • They sought a future/heavenly country
This does not mean that they wallowed around in their present. The point of the chapter is the testimony each of them possessed in their present. What it does mean is that the goal was their focus. As the common term would say it, they had their “eyes on the prize.”
Any Christian can emerge victorious through the obstacles of life if only we have our eyes on the heavenly prize.
