Daniel 11:1-2 (KJV)
Also I in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I, stood to confirm and to strengthen him.And now will I shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia.

The angel claims to have come for two purposes:
To strengthen and confirm God’s planThis being God’s plan that Israel be returned to the Promised Land according to the decree of Cyrus. This would require:

• Confirming the decision in the mind of Cyrus (and subsequently Darius)
• Quenching the attempts of others to distract Cyrus from his decision and
• Urging the Jews, who had grown complacent in Babylon to return and rebuild. 

To show Daniel the truthTruth is the Word of God as the Holy Spirit of God illuminates it. No work is so needful than that God’s Word be revealed to us. Having God’s Word is a blessing but it requires the teaching ministry of the Spirit to show us the truth in it.

God’s angelic brigade can be confidently assumed to do these same ministries for all praying saints:

• Strengthening and confirming His will for them and
• Showing them the truth in God’s Word
