Luke 5:39 (KJV) Older Is Better

Luke 5:39 (KJV)
No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.
The commentaries tend to ascribe the old to the Jewish law and the new to the gospel. Hence, they interpret the parable in the negative, “No man wants to do the right thing.”
I go back to Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
I see the old as the right thing.
I see the Scribes and Pharisees as those who had introduced the new and Jesus as the sustainer of the old.
The old truth of the Messiah is better. The
  • Old doctrines,
  • Old standards,
  • Old promises of God
are better than the new things introduced by those who make faith relevant. The gospel isn’t new. It is the promise of the old.
The old is better. Anyone who has tasted it knows it to be true.
