John 4:15 (KJV) A No Brainer

John 4:15 (KJV)
The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
This is a no brainer. Who wouldn’t want water such that you would never thirst again? I can think of only two reasons why someone would reject it:
  • They don’t believe the water is valid
  • The cost of the water is too steep
The water Jesus spoke of is eternal life. Who wouldn’t want to go to heaven instead of hell? It’s a no brainer. But people reject it all the time. More reject than accept and they do it for one of two reasons:
They don’t believe the offer of eternal life is valid
They either believe there is no life after death or that there can’t be hell after death or else, they believe we cannot know what will happen after death.
They believe the price of eternal life is too high
This is ridiculous because the price has already been paid. Jesus purchased our salvation when He died on the cross.
But still, notice that Jesus did not give her the water casually. Before she could have the water:
  • He dealt with her sin
  • He did not condemn her, but He did lead her to confess her sin
  • He addressed His nature
Saving faith isn’t the product of believing Jesus can save you. It is the product of trusting why He can save you. He is more than a prophet, a teacher, a good man. He can save because He is Messiah, God in flesh.
  • He instructed her worship
They that worship God must worship Him in Spirit and in truth. God never saves anyone to set them loose to go their own way. He saves them for fellowship with them and so they may serve Him.
