Acts 2:23 (KJV)
Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
Wicked hands crucified and slew Jesus. But this was not the work of man alone, nor of the devil. The hand of God worked out the cross.
Delivered — Thayer:
“Given over, delivered up; to enemies, or to the power and will of another.”
Determinate — Strong:
“To appoint, decree, specify; to declare, determine, limit, ordain.”
Counsel — Strong:
“Volition; objectively, advice; by implication, purpose, will.”
Foreknowledge — Thayer:
“Forethought, pre-arrangement.”
Of God — John Gill writes:
“God not only foreknew that it would be, but determined that it should be, who does all things after the counsel of his own will; and this for the salvation of his people…”
Never make the mistake of thinking that men thwart, derail, or determine the mind of God. He is bigger than anything any number of men might attempt. He is greater than Satan can ever conceive. His plan, His will, His purpose moves forward not only despite the wickedness of man—but often through that same wickedness.
