Psalms 11:1 (KJV) Whichever He Leads

Psalms 11:1 (KJV)
In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?

I would like to begin by observing that none of us have room to criticize anyone. The best of us walks in a world of haze.

  • We see the light of the Lord Jesus, but it is as if a thick fog dimmed His brilliance
  • We read God’s infallible and inerrant Word, but it is as if our glasses were smudged with greasy corruption
  • We receive insight into truth, but our fleshly hands are so full of the world we can barely grasp it

The other day a preacher, whose handle online is “slavetoGod,” argued that there is merit in the arguments of both those who believe they can serve God where they want and those who believe God must assign us our place.[a] I find it humorously hypocritical for him to claim to be a slave to God but also claim some slaves can do as they please.

The subject of the argument was the safety and spiritual wellbeing of children. Does a parent have the right to move their family to a place where their children are safer or where they will be exposed to less worldly influence?

A slave has no rights.

  • Zero
  • Zip

But we are also called stewards in the Bible.
A steward has responsibilities.

The key to the whole thing is that one who trusts the Lord has no occasion to flee. Whether he stays, he is the Lord’s, or whether he flees, he is the Lord’s.

Trust the Lord and do whichever He leads.

But trust the Lord and look for His leading, not your personal inclination.[b]

[a] This is a new problem, brought about by the political climate of our country. We are witnessing a shift in demographics as Christians, whose view of faith is self preservation and comfort, flock together and avoid scattering as salt and light. Individuals certainly have both the right and the freedom to do so, but is this truly God's purpose for the believer? Could this not contribute to the lack of faith Jesus said will mark the end of the world?

[b] Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Psalms 9:5 (KJV) God’s Promises – As Real As the Present

Psalms 9:5 (KJV)

Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.

This Psalm might be properly divided into two parts:
Positional truth

Vs. 1-6
There are statements of fact contained within these verses not yet experienced in their fullest sense.

This does not mean the verses are untrue. The Psalmist is looking into the future, into the promised outcome of God.

Experienced truth
Vs. 7-20
His assurance of God’s promises encourages the believer through his experiences, however difficult they may be.

When we view the promises of God, though still future, as if they were as real as our experiences, the experiences begin to look small in comparison.

Psalms 7:3-5 (KJV) The Goal is Growth

Psalms 7:3-5 (KJV)

O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;
If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)
Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it;yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.

There are a couple of ways to interpret this passage. One of them has an application.
David may have been denying the accusations laid against him.
Read it something like, “If I’m guilty, let a lightning bolt strike me dead.” In this case, the plain fact that the lightning bolt did not strike is intended as proof the accusation is false.

David may have intended this as an honest prayer to God.
There are profitable things to learn even from unfair accusations. The truth is, none of us is so free of guilt that we haven’t done something wrong. None of us is so perfectly holy that we can’t be drawn closer to the Lord. So far as David knew, he had not hurt anyone but had done the opposite. But he also knew he was not perfect, as God is perfect. There is often a grain of truth in what we believe is a false accusation.

The application is this simple, regardless of the reason for whatever accusations our enemies level against us, if we have a heart for God, we can submit them to the Lord so as to aid us in spiritual growth.

Psalms 5:8 (KJV) How To Respond?

Psalms 5:8 (KJV)

Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

When conflict happens, or someone takes ought against us, it can be challenging to know how to respond. David knew this and, in the middle of this type of trouble, asked the LORD to make God’s way straight, obvious before his face.

  • David didn’t ask God to show him David’s way
  • David asked God to show him God’s way

This Psalm provides insights into that way

  • He appealed for God’s grace
  • He sought the Lord in the morning
  • He reflected on the character of God, His displeasure of evil
  • He focused on his relationship with God “as for me”
  • He got himself to the house of God and worshiped
  • He left his enemies in God’s hands and
  • He prayed through his requests for them but did not take action against them
  • He lifted in prayer others who put their trust it’s in God

It’s stressful, demanding, hard whenever we are confronted by an enemy or a conflict comes. But we have a means of grace if we

  • Pray for our enemies[a] instead of reacting against them
  • Pray for other believers, knowing they, too, need grace and
  • Focus on our relationship with God and worship of Him

[a]In some cases the "enemy" is a friend or family member you've just had a disagreement with.

Psalms 5:8 (KJV) How To Respond?

Psalms 3:4 (KJV) David, Too, Lived By Faith

Psalms 3:4 (KJV)

I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

I’m thinking of that old axiom, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”

We tend, I think, to believe God was more active, more present, and more involved in the affairs of men back in David’s day. This Psalm would imply that’s not the case.
Psalms 3:2 (KJV)
Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.

The fact that people would say that, and the fact that David would respond the way he did,
Psalms 3:4 (KJV)
I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
indicates David, too, lived by faith. He trusted God. He cried to God. Ten thousands of people rose against him. God didn’t just wipe them off the map. But David slept and rose the next morning because God had sustained him.

Life presents us with hard choices. Sometimes there just isn’t a good choice to make. God seldom bulldozes the obstacles in the way of our choices. What He will always do, for those who cry out to Him, is to sustain them.

The enemies of our souls may never see God in our lives. They may keep on saying there is no help for him in God.

The man who lives by faith knows God hears us out of His holy hill.

1 Corinthians 2:2 (KJV) Jesus Christ and Him Crucified

1 Corinthians 2:2 (KJV)

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

Paul’s determination to preach only Christ and His crucifixion is a key to gospel ministry. He chose to preach in such a manner that the impression made was not of him but of Jesus. He focused not on convincing people with logic and strong reasoning but with truth, allowing the Holy Spirit to convict as He pleased.

This determination did not mean he never preached on subjects other than what is found in the four gospels. I know this to be true because, even in this letter, he speaks of issues like:

  • Strong meat
  • Spiritual gifts
  • Separation
  • Church polity and
  • Eschatology

Christ and His crucifixion encompass all things pertaining to and of interest to Jesus Christ. Paul refused to be sidetracked with subjects like:

  • Politics
  • Personalities
  • Current events

He stayed on task. His task was to preach the whole counsel of God.[1]

[1] Acts 20:27 (KJV)
For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

1 Corinthians 1:7 (KJV) Coming Again

1 Corinthians 1:7 (KJV)

So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

The theme of the coming of the Lord is so prevalent in the Word of God that even in this letter, to a fractured, worldly, and confused church, the Word of God says they waited for the coming of the Lord.

And no wonder!

  • Though they were fractured, the coming of the Lord would bring unity
  • Though they were worldly, the coming of the Lord would cause them to be blameless
  • Though they were confused, the coming of the Lord would give clarity

The doctrine of Christ’s coming is one of the Bible’s most important and most emphasized. It is no wonder that Satan has attacked this doctrine to such an extent that

  • The Catholics don’t believe it,
  • The Protestants don’t preach it,
  • The Fundamentalists disagree on it, and even
  • The Baptists have lately come to toy around with it

Jesus is coming again

  • In the clouds, to receive the Christians to heaven ahead of the Tribulation
  • With the saints, at the end of the Tribulation to establish His kingdom
  • At the end of the world, to be the light of the New Heavens and New Earth
