Psalms 148:12 (KJV) Surprising Things That Praise the Lord

Psalms 148:12 (KJV)

Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children:

There are, in this Psalm, certain elements we would expect to praise the Lord:

  • Angels and hosts
  • Sun, moon and stars
  • Mountains, hills and waters
  • Trees, beasts and flying things
These all praise the Lord as His creation

There are some things we might wonder if they were ever meant to praise the Lord:

  • Fire and hail
  • Snow and vapor
  • Stormy wind
These all praise the Lord by fulfilling his will.

There are some things we might believe can no longer praise the Lord:

  • Dragons no longer exist on the earth.

The evolutionist would say they lived long before there were men. The Biblical narrative says different. To know the truth about them praises the Lord.

There are some things that seem reticent to praise the Lord:

  • Kings
  • Princes
  • Judges

It comes down to this:

  • Young men
  • Maidens
  • Old men and
  • Children

All of us ought to be reminded, instructed, and encouraged every day to praise the Lord.

  • Teach your children to praise the Lord
  • Raise your family to praise the Lord and
  • Never grow weary of praising the Lord

Psalms 147:6 Meekness, Humility, Wickedness, and Pride

Psalms 147:6 (KJV)

The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.

James 4:6 (KJV)
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Luke 18:14 (KJV)
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
1 Peter 5:5 (KJV)
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

I approached this reading with the intention of exploring the comparisons between these parallel passages and Psalms 147:6. The phrase “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble” is widely recognized and embraced by Bible believers. The world’s system also tends to lean naturally in favor of preferring the company of the humble over the proud, at least in the sense of social preference.

I am making comparisons between:
– Meekness and humility
– Wickedness and pride

The similarities between meekness and humility come as no surprise.
In Psalms 147 and 1 Peter 5:5, the Hebrew words for meek and humility both carry the meaning of being “low to the ground.” They can signify a state of depression, but the Hebrew root of these words is associated with caring for the earth, as in tending to a crop. The meek are akin to the working man who eats his bread by the “sweat of thy face.”[1]

I am particularly struck by the parallel between wickedness and pride.
Defining pride as the act of elevating oneself is not difficult. Lucifer lifted himself in pride, declaring, “I will be like the most high.”[2] Pride, which involves lifting oneself up and seeking self-exaltation,[3] is the root of all sin, as seen in the temptation, “ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.[4] Undoubtedly, placing any god before the one true God[5] is an act of wickedness.

Psalms 145:3 (KJV) The Unsearchable Greatness of God

Psalms 145:3 (KJV)

Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

Great
Greatly
Greatness

I get the impression that God is great!

As I understand it, the Hebrew word for great and greatness derives from a pictograph of a rope. “A cord is made by twisting fibers together, the larger and more numerous the fibers, the stronger the cord will be.”[1]

The facets or fibers, the character, qualities, and attributes of God are infinite. What we know about what we know about God[2] barely touches the hem of the garment. The Bible says of just the things that Jesus did while on this earth were so numerous the earth could not contain the volume of the books.[3] We could and will never, I believe even in eternity, reach the end of our search into His greatness.

And therefore, with all our might, as greatly as we possibly can do, it is appropriate for us to shine the light upon God, to praise and glorify and point all attention upon Him.

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

Psalms 144:12 (KJV) Guarding Faith and Family

Psalms 144:12 (KJV)
That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace:

The portion of the Psalm this verse finds itself begins, Psalms 144:11 (KJV)
Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood:

Separation is a key to happiness in the faith

  • Separation leads to successful witnessing
  • Separation leads to strength of character
  • Separation also lends to raising godly sons and daughters

One of the signs of degenerate faith is the lack of discernment surrounding associations. Those associations we believe to be entertaining and innocent:

  • Destroy our testimony
  • Denigrate our faith and, too often
  • Defile our children

Psalms 142:4 (KJV) Emotions, Faith, and God’s Care

Psalms 142:4 (KJV)

I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.

This Psalm begins with the following superscript, “Maschil of David; A Prayer when he was in the cave.”

I’m going on record from the outset that I don’t believe David was complaining about his circumstances. He didn’t lack in faith or doubt God. Rather, he was being inspired by the Spirit of God to express emotions that every human being has or will experience at some point in their life. Most likely, we will encounter these situations multiple times in our lives.

“David was twice in great peril in caves. On one occasion, in the cave of Adullam, when he fled from Achish, the king of Gath, and on another, in the cave of Engedi, where he had sought refuge from the pursuit of Saul.”[1] In both cases, David had men with him who cared for his life. He had men who risked their own lives for his sake. However, it was David who refused to let them confront his enemy, choosing instead to place his trust in the hands of the Lord.

I would like to remind you, as I often need to remind myself, that God has not abandoned us. There are people who genuinely care for our well-being. Perhaps you can’t see them to your right or left due to the blindness caused by stress, or maybe the circumstances have cast a dark shadow over your vision. It’s also possible that they’re not right by your side now. However, God has never left you so utterly alone that there is no one who cares.

Look back to the Lord. David knew that he didn’t need to confront Saul in his own strength. God would handle the situation in His own time, and David would be forever free from the burden of taking matters into his own hands.

Psalms 27:14 (KJV)
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

He will deliver you and you will be happy he did.

Psalms 141:9 (KJV) Escaping the Snares

Psalms 141:9 (KJV)

Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity.

Over the years I’ve heard dozens of people complain about the violence of the Bible and prayers for the undoing of non-Christian people groups. Those who live in a physical plain can only see what seems to be physical consequences.

I believe the enemies the Old Testament teaches us to watch out for and to pray against are not people but evil spirits. The “they” who have laid snares is the devil, his devils and the influence they have over men. I seek no harm to any person. I do seek the demise of the evil spirit that overcomes them. I do seek God’s enabling to be delivered from the snares and traps of this same evil spirit.

  • I seek enabling not to speak what evil they would me say
  • I seek enabling to recognize and avoid practicing wicked works
  • I seek enabling to avoid the pleasure of sin for a season
  • I seek the humility to allow another believer the liberty to rebuke me when I am near to fall into the snare.

I do not seek to harm anyone, whether it be physically, emotionally, or eternally.

I do seek for the evil spirits in this world to become ensnared in their own traps, whilst I manage to escape.
