Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity.
Over the years I’ve heard dozens of people complain about the violence of the Bible and prayers for the undoing of non-Christian people groups. Those who live in a physical plain can only see what seems to be physical consequences.
I believe the enemies the Old Testament teaches us to watch out for and to pray against are not people but evil spirits. The “they” who have laid snares is the devil, his devils and the influence they have over men. I seek no harm to any person. I do seek the demise of the evil spirit that overcomes them. I do seek God’s enabling to be delivered from the snares and traps of this same evil spirit.
- I seek enabling not to speak what evil they would me say
- I seek enabling to recognize and avoid practicing wicked works
- I seek enabling to avoid the pleasure of sin for a season
- I seek the humility to allow another believer the liberty to rebuke me when I am near to fall into the snare.
I do not seek to harm anyone, whether it be physically, emotionally, or eternally.
I do seek for the evil spirits in this world to become ensnared in their own traps, whilst I manage to escape.
