Deuteronomy 27:5 (KJV) The Work of the Ministry

Deuteronomy 27:5 (KJV)

And there shalt thou build an altar unto the LORD thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them.

Here is a marvelous picture of the work of the ministry.

  • We are to build His work where He chooses
  • We are to build His work with those whom He prepares
  • We are to build by gathering those He has prepared
  • We are not to lay a hand to them except to gather them
  • We are to plainly declare God’s words at that place

That is the work in a nutshell. We see exactly what we are to do and exactly what we are not to do.

Focus on our work.

Leave everything else to God

Revelation 20:10 (KJV) The Devil, And Those Who Follow Him

Revelation 20:10 (KJV)

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

I have a few observations concerning the devil and those who follow him.

There is a literal devil
He is not merely the spirit of evil. He is an evil being.

Those who follow him have been deceived
This in no way changes their judgment. They have had opportunities to be rescued.

He is judged as summarily as his followers
It isn’t a challenge in any way, for God to judge him and cast him to torment. His judgment will be as long, as terrible, and as final as is any of his followers.

He is no match against Almighty God
He was foolish to think he could be.

Deuteronomy 22:2 (KJV) Help A Brother Out

Deuteronomy 22:2 (KJV)

And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again.

The scriptures are clear and, I think, practical. Followers of the Lord ought to be helpful one of another. That “finders’ keepers” mentality isn’t supposed to belong in us.

  • We must resist it, choose to be helpful.
  • We must choose to have the time.
  • We must choose to care for one another.

I notice first that it concerns more than cattle or sheep
It can be any sort of animal. It can be any sort of personal property.

I notice secondly that it concerns any brother
It matters not if he happens to be close to you or a brother less familiar. The goal is always to be helpful, to restore, to be neighborly.

I notice it concerns matters other than if a thing is lost
If our brother or neighbor is in any sort of need the intent is that we go out of our way to help a brother out.

Churches, God’s perfect place to perfect God’s people, would be even more perfect if we sincerely practiced this principle.

Revelation 18:17 (KJV) Just One Hour

Revelation 18:17 (KJV)

For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

Behold the frailty of human production. All that man has and can accomplish brought to naught in just one hour.

  • All the wealth men amass
  • All the buildings men construct
  • All the infrastructure men create
  • All the plans men imagine

In just one hour is come to naught.

Though our text is prophetic, history supports this concept with one account after the other of the very same thing. Some examples:

  • Egypt came to naught
  • Greece came to naught
  • Rome came to naught
  • Bloody Mary came to naught
  • Elizabeth I came to naught
  • Marie Antoinette came to naught
  • Hitler and Mussolini came to naught
  • Howard Hughes came to naught

You know what will never come to naught? Christ, and faith in Him.

Revelation 17:13 (KJV) One Mind?

Revelation 17:13 (KJV)

These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

I am certain that the passage is still prophetic of a time, future, when Antichrist will assemble people around the world to follow him.

  • They will be different cultures
  • They will be of different backgrounds
  • They will be of different languages

I am sure they will have some different preferences but, in the end, they will all have one mind – that of the antichrist.

It is a future passage, but current circumstances make it plain to see just how possible it is to bring the entire world to have one mind. Though there are differing opinions about where the COVID-19 virus originated and about how effective the vaccine is, among those who have swallowed the fear, they are of one mind – anyone who disagrees with mask mandates and distancing directives is dangerous to the population in general.

This mentality is demonstrated, so far as I have observed, around the world. Despite the fact that the evidence contradicts itself and experts often disagree, and frequently change their minds, Americans, Europeans, Orientals, and Islanders have all bought into the hysteria. Africans, South Americans, people from tropical climates, and people from frigid climates have all donned the mask and have angst against those who haven’t.

We are not in the Tribulation described in Revelation 17. But it is very easy to see how it will happen.

Deuteronomy 17:7 (KJV) Strict Guidelines

Deuteronomy 17:7 (KJV)

The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.

Exodus 20:13 (KJV)
Thou shalt not kill.

Exodus 20:13 (KJV)
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

That a life should ever be taken is one of the most horrific of things.

  • Life is precious,
  • Cannot be regained
  • It is a gift from God

However, there are times when, as horrific as it is, it must be done:

  • In war
  • In self defense
  • In judgment

God’s Word provided for the case of capital punishment. But it provided for it under very strict guidelines.

  • The thing must be certain
  • There must be a minimum of two witnesses and
  • The witnesses must be the first to perform the judgment

This would have minimized false witnesses. If it was difficult to assemble multiple people willing to bear false witness it would have been doubly difficult to find them willing to carry their witness out in the “hands on” participation of the execution.

We must never rejoice that a soul, any soul, loses his life.

Revelation 15:3 (KJV) God Is…

Revelation 15:3 (KJV)

And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

“God is good all the time. All the time God is good.” This phrase has become quite popular these days, along with it the simpler phrase, “God is good.” I do not deny this truth. Certainly, the Bible teaches the goodness of God. But the phrase is sparse in the Bible at best and the sentiment is shallow.

Terms that are more prevalent in the Word of God, and much more substantive are:

  • God is just
  • God is holy
  • God is righteous
  • God is true
  • God is almighty

While these terms are less sentimental, they are much more meaningful. These are the truths that will get the believer through difficult times. God is good and everything will work together for good to them that love God. But the term, on its own, is insufficient to sustain the weary, oppressed, and hurting.

Let’s consider all that God is. This will help the hurting world make much more sense.

Deuteronomy 12:3 (KJV) Our Undoing

Deuteronomy 12:3 (KJV)

And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.

Israel was to utterly destroy all of the objects of Canaanite worship and remove any reminder of their false gods. They were further instructed not to do the same with the LORD God. We know that Israel did not obey this exactly. It was in their halfhearted obedience they found their nation’s future problems.

We see the very same pattern among most Christians. It is not that we utterly dismiss God. We like to feign obedience. We wish for His blessing and His hand of help.

Christians would deny denying God.

The problem is that Christians refuse to utterly reject worldliness and further refuse absolute surrender to God. The disagreements among the professing children of God almost always come down to what an individual believer is willing to reject of the world or what they are willing to surrender to God.

And it’s our ultimate undoing.

It hinders our prayers, builds hurdles for spiritual growth, and creates hazards for future generations.

Deuteronomy 10:5 (KJV) There They Be

Deuteronomy 10:5 (KJV)

And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me.

There they be
This is the second copy of the Ten Commandments because Moses broke the originals after Israel broke their principles in sin. This copy was no less the Word of God. It was no less inspired or infallible. It had the same author, was from the same source, and delivered to the people by the same hand.

There they be
Time had not altered it. Written near forty years previous to this, they had been delivered to the ark, guarded by the priests, and overseen by God.

There they be

The same may be said of the Word of God today. Though many assume it has been corrupted beyond recognition and indeed there are corrupted versions, almighty God gave His Word, He placed it in the care of His people, and He alone as overseen its transmission and preservation.

There they be
Sixty-six books collected under the watchful eye of God, protected through the centuries, and available to all who would but take an interest and read them.

There they be
Grab a Bible, open its pages, meet its author, be saved, and then live for the glory of God.
