Ezekiel 48:1 (KJV) Eternal Allotments

Ezekiel 48:1 (KJV)

Now these are the names of the tribes. From the north end to the coast of the way of Hethlon, as one goeth to Hamath, Hazarenan, the border of Damascus northward, to the coast of Hamath; for these are his sides east and west; a portion for Dan.

A New Lot

The new heavens and the new earth are of such different proportions that the lots given to the tribes of Israel in the days of Joshua just won’t do. Each tribe is to be given a new portion. And it is such that, while there is a description given in the passage, it is one that is of little use in our current environment.

I see something constant.

The tribes continue to exist into eternity. And so do we. The soul of man never dies. Neither does our identity. We do not leave this world to become part of some universal “force.” We are individuals here and we will be individuals in the next life. Just as Moses and Elias met with Christ on the Mount of Transfiguration,[1] demonstrating that they still existed and were still identifiable, we will, in the next world, still exist and still be identifiable.

I see something new.

New heavens, a new earth, a new Jerusalem with a new temple. Having things familiar is comforting to all of us. But having all things new, with no sin, no death, no corruption - these are things not to be feared but treasured, cherished, and looked forward to.

I see something mysterious.

The unknown is always a bit frightening. There is much about the future life in eternity that is unknown. We speculate. We can, as I have done here, draw some implications about that future life. But we cannot know for certain. These are issues of faith.

Trusting God for our eternity is not only wise but necessary.

Eternal Allotments: Implications for Heaven

[1] Matthew 17:3-4 (KJV)

And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

Ezekiel 47:11 (KJV) Salt and Salvation

Ezekiel 47:11 (KJV)

But the miry places thereof and the marishes thereof shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt.

There is no doubt in my mind that this passage is prophetic and eternal, representing things that are even beyond the Millennial Kingdom of Christ.

The seas that are healed, I believe, speak of people of all races who have come to know the Lord. Seas often represent masses of people in the Word of God. Those of us who are saved know that we have been forgiven. We also know that we do not deserve it. We are equally as sinful as anyone who is unsaved. The only difference? We've trusted the One who came to redeem us. In eternal life, we will be healed - finally, forever, and fully healed of the curse of sin and the consequences of its corruption.

But wait.

Is there something in the eternal state that is not healed?

Yes.

Revelation 20:10 (KJV)

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Revelation 20:14-15 (KJV)

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The soul of man, redeemed or lost, is eternal. There is no such thing as annihilation. Those who reject Jesus do not cease to exist at death. But what they experience is far from eternal life.

Oh, soul, have you thus far refused to trust Jesus Christ? Our plea is that you would give serious consideration to the testimony of those who have met Christ. Do not flippantly reject Him. Do not allow the hypocrisy of professing believers to cloud your view of the perfect Lord of glory. Search not the record of religion, but of Jesus. Search your soul. And come to trust Jesus Christ alone to redeem you, save you, and rescue you from such an awful fate.

Ezekiel 46:10 (KJV) In Every Step

Ezekiel 46:10 (KJV)

And the prince in the midst of them, when they go in, shall go in; and when they go forth, shall go forth.

One must recall that Ezekiel 40-48 is prophetic, future, and speaks of something otherworldly.[1] The prince, in the text, is I believe, symbolic of Christ. The sacrifices and offerings are representative of those Christ has performed for us on the Cross. The priests, in the New Testament and, I believe, into eternity, are all those who have been redeemed by His blood.

Now learn the lesson.

In eternity, Christ is ever-present and always in our midst. We go nowhere that He isn't with us, among us, and in our midst.

Spiritually, this is true even today. Among those of us who know Christ, we have learned to accept this as fact, and to look for Him in our midst.

·       Through fires and floods,

·       Over mountains and valleys,

·       In trials and victories,

·       At work, home, or in the house of God,

Jesus Christ, our Prince of Peace, is in our midst. When we go into the house of God, He goes in with us. When we leave the house of God for our daily duties, He goes with us.

Whether we eat or drink or whatsoever we do,[2] we must do it to the glory of God, because indeed, whatsoever we do, God is in our midst.

Ezekiel 44:8 (KJV) Guardians of the Faith

Ezekiel 44:8 (KJV)

And ye have not kept the charge of mine holy things: but ye have set keepers of my charge in my sanctuary for yourselves.

The passage is future and specifically pertains to the Temple. But, wow, do I see parallels in church settings today.

First, there is the so-called universal church.

It is, according to those who teach it, invisible, worldwide, consisting of all Christian regardless of faith, denomination, or doctrine. It has no measures and no limits. The only thing – it has no basis in Biblical teaching. You can’t find a universal invisible church anywhere in the Bible. It’s totally fabricated from the imaginations of men.

Second there is the issue of the keepers.

Which in modern churches today might be anybody. They could be male or female. They might have no Biblical standards. The requirement of blamelessness[1] has either been dismissed or explained away. Divorce and remarriage[2]are no longer considered issues so far qualifications for ministry in modern churches.

Then there is the issue of the ordinances.

Baptism is considered optional in many cases because, according to universal church doctrine, the true baptism is by the Spirit at the moment of salvation. The Lord's Supper, which Paul said could cause believers to be sick or even die[3] if partaken unworthily, is administered too often and haphazardly.

Tozer said something to the effect of, "Low thoughts of God lead to a hundred lesser sins."[4] Low thoughts of God have led to the common sin of polluting the holy things of God. We've set persons for ourselves as keepers of the House of God, and they have defiled it with worldliness.

Ezekiel 42:20 (KJV) Holy Boundaries

Ezekiel 42:20 (KJV)

He measured it by the four sides: it had a wall round about, five hundred reeds long, and five hundred broad, to make a separation between the sanctuary and the profane place.

The word sanctuary simply means "apartness." It refers to something set apart, it is uncommon. It is a peculiar and special use. The word profane means common. It refers to those things, not necessarily evil or wrong, but of ordinary or common use.

I think, for instance of the difference between the common flatware a family might use for everyday meals and the "fine china" mom might set out for special occasions. The "fine china" is generally; kept in a different place, cared for in a different manner, maybe even used by only specific persons. There might be fewer pieces and they may be kept away from children and others who could break them easily.

There must be a separation from the things that are set aside for Lord, and the things we use in daily life.

I am afraid that, too often we have come to treat the things of the Lord as profane. We have grown so accustomed to the house of God, that it means little to us.  We have self-professing servants of the Lord who wear profane clothing to the pulpit. Some of them use generally profane language in their speeches. In many cases I believe they are, like the sons of Eli, profane men who treat the people of God as profane things.

No wonder so many are willing to treat the house of the Lord, the Word of God and the Lord Himself as profane.[1] The current "deconstructing Christianity" movement might be akin to a Babylonian siege bent on tearing the Temple apart, one stone from another.

The Bible speaks of a day when the Lord Himself will establish a wall of separation between the sanctuary and the profane. I live today so that I might be set apart and holy, belonging to the Lord.

Ezekiel 41:22 (KJV) The Heavenly Banquet

Ezekiel 41:22 (KJV)

The altar of wood was three cubits high, and the length thereof two cubits; and the corners thereof, and the length thereof, and the walls thereof, were of wood: and he said unto me, This is the table that is before the LORD.

In a supernatural setting, the man whose appearance is like of brass, stopped measuring to point out the altar of incense. "This is the table that is before the Lord." In the Temple before Babylonian captivity the altar of incense would have stood before the veil of the temple, separating the priests from the Ark of the Covenant. The book of Psalms lets us know that the incense rising is a type of the prayers of the saints rising up to the Lord.

Psalms 141:2 (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

This altar of incense of prayer is a sweet smell to the Lord.

Ephesians 5:2 (KJV)

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

We spread before our Lord His most delightful feast when we offer unto Him our prayers.

May we, not only in the eternal state, but in our present state, set this table often.
