For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
Paul’s determination to preach only Christ and His crucifixion is a key to gospel ministry. He chose to preach in such a manner that the impression made was not of him but of Jesus. He focused not on convincing people with logic and strong reasoning but with truth, allowing the Holy Spirit to convict as He pleased.
This determination did not mean he never preached on subjects other than what is found in the four gospels. I know this to be true because, even in this letter, he speaks of issues like:
- Strong meat
- Spiritual gifts
- Separation
- Church polity and
- Eschatology
Christ and His crucifixion encompass all things pertaining to and of interest to Jesus Christ. Paul refused to be sidetracked with subjects like:
- Politics
- Personalities
- Current events
He stayed on task. His task was to preach the whole counsel of God.[1]
