Psalms 5:8 (KJV) How To Respond?

Psalms 5:8 (KJV)

Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

When conflict happens, or someone takes ought against us, it can be challenging to know how to respond. David knew this and, in the middle of this type of trouble, asked the LORD to make God’s way straight, obvious before his face.

  • David didn’t ask God to show him David’s way
  • David asked God to show him God’s way

This Psalm provides insights into that way

  • He appealed for God’s grace
  • He sought the Lord in the morning
  • He reflected on the character of God, His displeasure of evil
  • He focused on his relationship with God “as for me”
  • He got himself to the house of God and worshiped
  • He left his enemies in God’s hands and
  • He prayed through his requests for them but did not take action against them
  • He lifted in prayer others who put their trust it’s in God

It’s stressful, demanding, hard whenever we are confronted by an enemy or a conflict comes. But we have a means of grace if we

  • Pray for our enemies[a] instead of reacting against them
  • Pray for other believers, knowing they, too, need grace and
  • Focus on our relationship with God and worship of Him

[a]In some cases the "enemy" is a friend or family member you've just had a disagreement with.
