Hebrews 10:8-10 (KJV) Take That Away

Hebrews 10:8-10 (KJV)
Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Continuing a theme that is dominant throughout the book of Hebrews, the Apostle here sets forth that; the Old Testament law must be taken away (for righteousness) in order that the New Testament promise of sanctification through the offering of Christ might be established.
Those so-called Christians who insist on promoting and/or practicing Jewish rituals really serve only to dull[1] the glory of the sacrifice of Christ.
God did not add faith in Christ to the Old Testament rituals. God took away all that was Old Testament law  (for the sake of earning righteousness-there is much to learn by way of example in the law). God removed it. God did away with it and replaced it with something brand new.
It is no spiritual thing to embrace Jewish tradition and Jesus Christ.
It is instead a wicked and errant thing.
[1] I speak as a man. The glory of Christ can never be truly dulled.

Hebrews 9:7-8 (KJV) A More Perfect Tabernacle

Hebrews 9:7-8 (KJV)
But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
Hebrews 9:11 (KJV)
But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
Consider carefully and it is obvious that the Apostle advocated for the dismantling of the Jewish system of worship, in this passage, meaning the Temple. As long as that Temple stood, the way into the presence of God was obscured. He advocated instead for a greater and more perfect tabernacle.
Because this tabernacle is not made with hands, I don’t believe Paul meant the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem had to be literally torn down (though that did eventually happen) but that the practice of faith in it must be done away with. As long as a person continues in the Jewish system he is blinded to the true way into the presence of God. If he is blinded, he is certainly not capable of leading anyone else into God’s presence.
This new tabernacle, not made with hands is, I believe, the local New Testament Church. (Not the body of the individual Christian as the Protestants wrongly suppose.) The local church is a miracle to ponder.
  • It is composed of people of all ages, backgrounds, genders and interests.
  • It may have both former Jews and Gentiles within it, now one in Christ.
  • It represents how any man woman and child may enter into God’s presence through saving faith in Christ.
This is why it is such a sin to continue in or support the practice of Jewish faith in either Jewish or Messianic Jewish communities. They blind the larger numbers from the way into the holiest. They give the impression that the way is limited and small.
Every born again believer must come out from among them and unite instead in a true local New Testament (and, I believe, Baptist) Church.

Hebrews 8:10-11 (KJV) First Reach the Soul for Christ

Hebrews 8:10-11 (KJV)
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
John Gill writes,
“…not with a natural, but with a spiritual knowledge; not with general knowledge of him, that he is, but with a special knowledge of him, that he is theirs; not with a legal, but with an evangelical knowledge; not with the knowledge of him in, and through the creatures, but in Christ; and that not speculative, but experimental; such as is attended with faith in him, fear of him, love to him, and a cheerful obedience to his will…”
The passage is applicable only to believers. It is not that the Christian needs no teacher but that the teacher is only effective in ministering to those who have this sort of knowledge of Christ.
  • We must seek first to reach the soul for Christ
  • It is then that we may effectively preach and teach of Christ
Those who have taught Christ to others have all witnessed the difference there is in opening the Bible to those who know Christ versus opening it to those who do not.

Hebrews 7:11-12 (KJV) It Is Called A Church

Hebrews 7:11-12 (KJV)
If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

There is an assumption made in this passage that a Christian would do well to consider. The assumption is that the Levitical priesthood has been:
  • Changed
  • Replaced
  • Discontinued
There is evidence of this change presented in the text but it is not the kind anyone would accept who hasn't already accepted Christ as the Messiah. An Orthodox Jew would certainly not accept it.

So many of the lessons Christians must learn simply cannot and will not be acceptable to those who reject or even question the role of Christ as the Son of God.

The Bible teaches us that Christ replaced the Levitical priesthood.
  • He did not supplement it.
  • He did not improve it.
  • He did not redirect it.
He changed it to another.

He became our High Priest.

What this means is that the Jew who gets saved is to leave his old life and religion and unite with Christ in a local congregation of believers called a church.
  • It is not a temple
  • It is not called a synagogue

It is called a church.

Hebrews 6:7-8 Be Diligent About Eternity

Hebrews 6:7-8 (KJV)
For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

The passage is obviously not concerned with herbs and thorns but issues of eternal consequence. We ought not take this too lightly.

The earth, all the earth, is often refreshed with rain. Due to that rain, plants of all sorts are nourished and grow.
  • Some of this plants are useful and are a blessing
  • Others are not useful and can inhibit the useful
That they receive rain is not an indicator of God's blessing and is no promise of eternal peace.
  • That which is good receives the rain and is blessed of God.
  • That which is not good also receives the rain but it is eventually gathered and burned.
I have met people who believe they have a good relationship with God because some good has happened for them. Some would say these blessings from God happen for them often. But these are people who deny the message of salvation through Christ. They are, as it were, soaking up the rain right now but their end is eternal judgment

I have met others who have no relationship with God at all. They claim He does not exist. They boast of having:
  • No fear of death
  • Peace of mind and
  • As good or better life as any Christian they know
Once again they are only enjoying what the whole earth enjoys. It provides no evidence that their assumptions about spiritual things are true. The Bible is clear that their eternal days will be in torments in the lake of fire and brimstone.

Wisdom demands that every person give diligence to the matter of eternity.

Hebrews 5:1-2 (KJV) Minister to the People

Hebrews 5:1-2 (KJV)
For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.
The priest has compassion and ministers to two sorts of people:
The ignorantThese are souls who do not know better. Whether it is because of background, upbringing or their own negligence they haven’t yet heard the Word of God clearly preached. The Old Testament provided a sacrifice for the sin of ignorance.
Them that are out of the wayI take this to be those who should know better and have chosen to step away from the teaching of God’s Word. It is willful sin.
Either way the priest could have compassion and thus minister on their behalf.
This has not changed today. We have people who despise the truth and haven’t even heard that truth, yet we have others who know full well what the message from God they are breaking is.
The difference is that the new High Priest, Jesus Christ, is free to address and minister to the needs of all because he has no need to concern himself with His own sins.
He has none.
