Hebrews 7:11-12 (KJV)
If therefore
perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received
the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the
order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
For the
priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
There is an assumption made
in this passage that a Christian would do well to consider. The assumption is
that the Levitical priesthood has been:
- Changed
- Replaced
- Discontinued
There is evidence of this
change presented in the text but it is not the kind anyone would accept who
hasn't already accepted Christ as the Messiah. An Orthodox Jew would certainly
not accept it.
So many of the lessons
Christians must learn simply cannot and will not be acceptable to those who
reject or even question the role of Christ as the Son of God.
The Bible teaches us that
Christ replaced the Levitical priesthood.
- He did not
supplement it.
- He did not improve
it.
- He did not redirect
it.
He changed it to another.
He became our High Priest.
What this means is that the
Jew who gets saved is to leave his old life and religion and unite with Christ
in a local congregation of believers called a church.
- It is not a temple
- It is not called a
synagogue
It is called a church.
