Hebrews 6:7-8 (KJV)
For the
earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth
herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
But that
which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose
end is to be burned.
The passage is obviously not
concerned with herbs and thorns but issues of eternal consequence. We ought
not take this too lightly.
The earth, all the earth, is
often refreshed with rain. Due to that rain, plants of all sorts are nourished
and grow.
- Some of this plants
are useful and are a blessing
- Others are not
useful and can inhibit the useful
- That which is good
receives the rain and is blessed of God.
- That which is not
good also receives the rain but it is eventually gathered and burned.
I have met people who believe
they have a good relationship with God because some good has happened for them.
Some would say these blessings from God happen for them often. But these are
people who deny the message of salvation through Christ. They are, as it were,
soaking up the rain right now but their end is eternal judgment
I have met others who have no
relationship with God at all. They claim He does not exist. They boast of
having:
- No fear of death
- Peace of mind and
- As good or
better life as any Christian they know
Once again they are only
enjoying what the whole earth enjoys. It provides no evidence that their assumptions
about spiritual things are true. The Bible is clear that their eternal days
will be in torments in the lake of fire and brimstone.
Wisdom demands that every
person give diligence to the matter of eternity.
