2 Samuel 11:16 (KJV) Where are the Valiant Men?

2 Samuel 11:16 (KJV)

And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were.

Joab knew the place where the valiant men were. I think of our modern-day SEAL teams, Rangers, and Special Forces in whatever branch of the military they serve. They are indeed a rare breed of men—elite, valiant. Uriah, I believe, would have been among them regardless of this incident. After all, he is numbered among David’s mighty men.

Mighty men.

I’ve read the stories of some of them—men like John Chapman, an Air Force special operations soldier who earned the Medal of Honor posthumously. Marcus Luttrell, the “Lone Survivor” of Operation Red Wings, along with Michael Murphy, Danny Dietz, and Matthew Axelson (the last three killed in the operation). These men are so well trained they seem almost superhuman.

Almost. But they’re not. (The Ancient Hebrew word has to do with drilling or boring a hole. Almost like valiant men are those willing to take a bullet.)

Joab knew where the valiant men were. He knew he could count on them to do whatever they must to gain the victory.

I want to praise the Lord for valiant men.

I also want to ask the Lord to give us more of them—not just in the realm of the military, but in the eternal realm of God’s men.
