Ephesians 6:9 (KJV)
And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
We tend to put so much respect of persons in our world.
We respect government leaders. Even if we don’t like what they do, we know they have authority and power. One could argue that our dislike of them is a form of respect. Otherwise, we just wouldn’t think of them at all.
We respect business executives. These folks run businesses that impact the world and the way we live. Once again, we do not necessarily have to like them to recognize what they do and the position they hold.
We respect rich men. They may fall into many levels of wealth, but whatever the level, we know it is above our own. Sometimes we find ourselves in need of those resources—jealous of them and perhaps even angry that they don’t share them more generously. Most of the time, I think we cannot appreciate the price they paid to possess them.
We respect work bosses and “masters.” I’ve been the hand, and I’ve been the foreman (push) on construction jobs. The hands almost never appreciate the foreman—or those above him—as much as they should. But they do know who they are.
God thinks no differently of the master than He does the servant. In every case.
- God loves them equally.
- God desires their salvation equally.
- God’s Son gave His life equally for them.
- God judges their lives equally.
And when we stand before God, we will all stand before Him as equals.
I wonder how many of those in positions of power spend time thinking about this.
