How To Behave

1 Timothy 3:15 KJV
But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
I am reminded today of the importance of the local church and of our behaviour in that church.
In some denominations, the building itself becomes an idol of worship. The building becomes ornate, rich, and ostentatious. People come to admire and adore the building more than the creator.
In some denominations (and, for that matter, independent churches) the service itself becomes an idol. The people are expected to reverence the experience of church. Hushed tones and carefully scripted programs are carried out with no on allowed to interfere with the flow of said program.

We would do well to remember that we are to have no gods before the Lord. That includes those god we might make up in the Lord's house.

On the other hand, the church of the Living God is an awesome place and the believer would also do well to remember to behave as becoming his profession of faith while there. We gather together, in whatever place we assemble, for the purpose of worshiping the Lord and that is exactly what we ought to do while we are there.
