Our Best Course

Jeremiah 42:15-16 KJV
And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;
Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

There is never escape from trouble other than the escape found in the Lord. Those Jews remaining in Israel after the Babylonian captivity were frightened. They felt no security in the Promised Land else Babylon decide to come and get them too. So the people did the religious thing; they asked Jeremiah what they should do, probably knowing all along that they would not obey the Lord unless He blessed their plan to go to Egypt.

Jeremiah warned them that to go to Egypt would not be their salvation. A person can flee the Lord but they can never escape the consequences of disobedience.

Our best course is always to obey the Lord.
