1 Chronicles 3:5 (KJV) The Immeasurable Grace of God

1 Chronicles 3:5 (KJV)

And these were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shimea, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, four, of Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel:

Behold the immeasurable grace of God!

It is sufficient of grace to think that Solomon, the child of David and Bathsheba, would become king.

Who among us needs an explanation of the circumstances bringing David and Bathsheba together? It is a crime. It is a sin of unspeakable measure what David did with Bathsheba and to her husband, Uriah. But he did it. It’s not debatable. Still, God, in inexpressible mercy, not only spared them but chose to call one of their children to be the successor to the throne and the builder of the Temple.

God had promised David that one from his seed would sit on the throne forever. That’s not the same promise He made to Solomon. There were conditions placed upon him if his seed would continue. He did not meet those conditions. By the time Nebuchadnezzar laid siege to Jerusalem, God had taken the throne from Solomon’s seed.

But not from David’s seed.

Not even from the union of David and Bathsheba.

Joseph was from the family of David’s son, Solomon, giving Jesus a legal claim to the throne.

Mary was from the family of David’s son, Nathan, giving Jesus the spiritual claim to the throne.

Both Solomon and Nathan were David’s seed through the same mother, Bathsheba.

Behold the immeasurable grace of God!
