Daniel 8:20-21 (KJV) Prophecy Fulfilled

Daniel 8:20-21 (KJV)

The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.

And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.

The book of Daniel is one of the most contested. Scholars and skeptics claim it could not have been written by Daniel because it foretells the future empires too perfectly.

In the chapter before us, we are given the time of the writing of this chapter and the penman of the chapter. Daniel wrote this vision, and its very specific interpretation, in the third year of the reign of the Babylonian King, Belshazzar. The Bible specifically tells us that Daniel, the one who saw the vision, recorded it. “Me, even unto me Daniel.” The Bible specifically tells us it was in the third year of the reign of Babylonian king Belshazzar.

All of this would be fine. The vision could have been interpreted and understood in any number of ways:

·       Rams

·       Horns

·       He goats

I suppose such a vision might have been used to describe anything the imagination of a man wanted. Up to this point, there would be little reason to question the writer or the dating.

Up to verse 20.

The angel Gabriel appeared to Daniel in verses 15-16 and gave, for us to read, a very specific interpretation.

·       The ram with two horns represents the kings of Media and Persia.

·       The rough goat represents the king of Greece.

Hold on!

This was written in the reign of Babylon. Media and Persia were not a concern at this time. Greece was a world away at this time in history. And yet the vision describes Greece’s great leader, whom we know to be Alexander, defeating the Medo-Persian empire and then dissolving into four smaller parts. Exactly what happened in both Medo-Persia and Greece.

We are left with two choices:

·       Believe the record of the Word of God, which, by the way, has the endorsement of history. Or

·       Dive into skepticism and trust the word of men who refuse to believe in the God of heaven.

As for me, I believe.
