Acts 1:3 (KJV)
To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
I am reminded of how the disciples asked Jesus why He spoke to the people in parables. Jesus said it was because it was given to them to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to others, it was not given.
- Jesus shewed Himself alive for forty days.
- Jesus shewed Himself alive at multiple times.
- Jesus shewed Himself alive to above 500 people at once.
- Jesus shewed Himself alive by many infallible proofs.
But Jesus shewed Himself alive to those whom He had chosen.
So far as the record goes, He did not shew Himself alive to any of the Jewish or Roman leaders.
And for this, He is criticized today.
Modern skeptics have latched onto the fact that all of the witnesses were believers. There were non-Christian witnesses to His trial, His death, and His burial, but only Christians witnessed the resurrected Christ.
This in no way negates their testimony. His resurrection was still witnessed by multiple people over an extended period and corroborated by hundreds seeing Him at once. Moreover, the credibility of the witnesses is attested to by their agreement on the facts of the resurrection and their consistent testimony, even at the pain of death.
There is every reason to believe the evidence of the resurrection of Christ. It is reasonable and logical. But it is still faith.
