Acts 20:4 (KJV) One Faith, Many Nations

Acts 20:4 (KJV)

And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.

Notice the international nature of this passage—and by extension, the ministry it represents. Paul, a Jew of the Pharisees converted to faith in Christ, is here accompanied by:

  • Sopater of Berea
  • Aristarchus and Secundus of Thessalonica
  • Gaius of Derbe
  • Timothy
  • Tychicus and Trophimus of Asia

Jesus Christ brings people from every region of the world—religious, cultural, social, and economic backgrounds—and makes them one family in a common faith.

A few years ago, I was blessed to meet a Filipino man who earned his income working in what we now call a restricted access nation. As a believer, he could not bear seeing so many without a gospel witness. His home church commissioned him, and he set out to establish an underground church in his place of employment. Over the years, he saw several churches established, reaching people from far-reaching areas: India, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Germany, and several African countries. Many of these people later returned to their native lands to plant churches. I’ve been privileged to provide several of them with Bible training material.

Some years ago, we had members in our church from Korea, the Philippines, Japan, the U.S., and Egypt. We marveled how, on any given Sunday, our members read the Word of God in their own languages—some from right to left, some left to right, and even some from top to bottom.

Different cultures, different backgrounds, different upbringings, different outside interests—but all part of the same church family through a common faith in Christ.

Jesus brings true unity.

No wonder the world’s diversity hates Him.
