John 20:2 (KJV) When You’re Confused

John 20:2 (KJV)

Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

Mary’s first reaction upon seeing the empty tomb was to run and tell the disciples.
She was confused.
She was concerned.

She had no scriptural explanation at that moment. Her first thought wasn’t resurrection — it was that someone had moved the Lord’s body.

Peter and John ran to see for themselves. Answers were on the way, but none of them understood what had happened yet.

Whenever we find ourselves confused or burdened, a wise practice is to run to the church — run to the preachers — run to those who have spent time with the Lord. Not because they always have every answer, but because Mary didn’t meet the risen Saviour until after she ran to the disciples.

When Jesus appeared to her, notice His instruction:
John 20:17 (KJV)
Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them…

There it is again — “Go to my brethren.”

  • When you’re confused — go to God’s people.
  • When you’re concerned — go to God’s people.
  • When you’re convinced of the truth — go to God’s people again and share it.

Of course, we can’t stay confined to the church house or talk only to believers. The Lord sends us out as witnesses. But the natural pattern for a Christian ought to be to frequently, joyfully, and habitually return to the house of God and the fellowship of His people.
