And he garnished the house with precious stones for beauty: and the gold was gold of Parvaim.
This is the only passage in the Bible where the word Parvaim is found. Yet it appears to be emphasized in such a manner as to attract attention. It has therefore intrigued Bible students for centuries.
The word itself may be of foreign origin — or perhaps the substance was. Most students (I prefer to think of us all as students and none of us as scholars) believe it to be a place like Ophir or Sheba, but there are alternatives to it being a place at all.
It could be:
• a style of gold work
• a particular quality of gold
• a unique color of gold
What if Parvaim was a particular craftsman or company of gold workers of note in the days of Solomon?
The commentaries mostly connect Parvaim to something oriental. There was almost a mythical, mysterious, or legendary quality to the far east in those days — not in the sense of imaginary, but something distant, exotic, and unreachable. The streets of the New Jerusalem are paved with gold.
In the end, it is impossible, this side of eternity, to know exactly what or where Parvaim is. But God does not waste words in the Word. Parvaim may be of more significance than any of us can imagine. And that significance may be a treasure revealed only after this life, and only to those who dwell eternally with the Lord in heaven.
Perhaps those who share this Daily Visit with God with me will sit beside me in heaven as we discover this treasure together.
Will you be in heaven with me?
