Psalms 119:81 (KJV) Faint Yet Faithful

Psalms 119:81 (KJV)

My soul fainteth for thy salvation: butI hope in thy word.

Here is the struggle the believer must wage:

On the one hand, we wait, we struggle, we faint for God’s salvation.
  • We know, trust, and believe in God. But our experience today is often in conflict with our faith.
  • We know our souls are redeemed, but we confess our flesh is weak.
  • We know God is sovereign, but we grieve that Satan is the prince of this world.
  • We are confident that God answers our prayers, but often the answer is “No” or “Wait.”

Our world is filled with people who mock and ridicule our faith. They point to the inconsistencies and say, “Where is thy God?”[1] I recently had someone jeer at my message with the words, “My parents said I can’t have imaginary friends.”

On the other hand, we have the Word of God.

  • Its Word is sure.
  • Its help is indisputable.
  • Its truths are infallible.

Every Word of God is sure. The Bible is not a book of science, but all the science found in it is factual. The Bible is not a book of history, but all the history recorded in it is true. No part of the Bible has ever been proven false. There are parts that no one has proven, but there is nothing that has proven to be false. Further, three-quarters of the prophetic events recorded in the Bible have been fulfilled without variation. We have no reason to believe that the remaining prophecies will not be fulfilled exactly as the Word details them. Then there is the resurrection. It is more well-documented than any other historical or archaeological event considered to be truthful. We faint because we long to see the day when God consummates all things. Until that day, we hope because we believe God’s Word to be the surest thing in this world.

[1] Psalms 42:3 (KJV)
My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God
