Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.
Thy merciful kindness
The mercy and kindness are a comfort.
- The Word of God promises it
- The character of God proves it
But notice that he is praying that God’s merciful kindness would be his comfort.
I take it that means it would not have to be his comfort. My experience as a pastor informs me that numbers of souls, sometimes even those who profess the Lord, many of those who profess the Lord, find no comfort in God’s merciful kindness. Sometimes, we get so focused on our troubles that we can’t be comforted by anyone, especially the Lord. I’ve encountered professing Christians angry at God for allowing them to be afflicted at all.[1]
It is a grace of God, and I believe a matter of prayer before the need, that we would be predisposed to find comfort in God’s mercy and kindness.
[1] Refer to Psalms 119:76 (KJV)
Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.
