Hosea 6:1 KJV
Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
Just a few observations
First, the Word of God makes no bones about the fact that God tears and smites. There is
No shame
No embarrassment
No justification of it
It is simply a fact in the Word of God. Our God has torn His people.
In many cases, he does it as a form of chastening. Judah's captivity in Babylon is just one example of that. In other cases, God has torn to prove His own glory. Job is a case in point. Job was smitten, I know, by the hand of Satan, but God absolutely allowed it to happen. We do ourselves no real good to try to hide or explain away these facts. Our God is God. If He chooses to tear, He is righteous in doing so.
Second, the Word of God says the same God who has torn, also heals and binds us up.
Some people stumble at this and cannot conceive of a God who would do both, let alone do both and still be all good and all righteous. Attempting to apply our standards of goodness and righteousness to God is to usurp the role of God. God is good and God is righteous because He said He is. He is the standard by which we measure goodness and righteousness or else we have made ourselves God above Him.
Thirdly, we are called upon to return to Him in either case.
Are we in a time of healing and blessing? Let us come to Him with thanksgiving and rejoicing. Are we in a time of trouble and heartache? Let us come to Him and seek healing and anointing and a binding up of our wounds.
The right answer in life is always, "Come, and let us return unto the Lord.."
