John 8:37 KJV
I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
There is an interesting progressive study about spiritual fathers that takes place beginning at this point.
Abraham as father
God is Christ's Father
The devil is the father of these Jews
But my attention became focused this morning on this phrase, "... my word hath no place in you."
At that very moment they were hearing the words of Christ. But those words wer not taking root in them. They heard them, but they could not find lodging. There was no place for them.
And though they, as the leaders of the Jews, had the written word of God committed to them. And though they were presumed experts in that written Word, even it had found no place in them. They
Read it
Studied it
Interpreted and
Taught it
Wrote books and commentaries about itBut they would not let that Word have a proper home in their hearts. It was a system they practiced, but they missed God altogether. They used (or rather abused) that Word of God to be the barrier between them and a real walk with the Lord.
And we face a similar challenge even today. We can hear the Bible and even practice the Bible, and we can do that in such a way that it actually becomes the wall that separates us from God.
My prayer today is that the Word of God will find a place in me.
