Hebrews 3:12 KJV
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
I saw this text as complimentary to the text that I focused upon yesterday. We must give the more earnest heed not to let the things we have learned from God to slip AND we must take heed not to depart from the living God.
What a tragic thing it is when one who has heard the Word of God and has responded to it turns out to have an "evil heart of unbelief." Some who appear to have walked with us and with our Saviour turn out to be, after all, unbelievers.
It is no little thing to be a believer. It is not something that happens without consequence and then we can just turn from as we please. The one who has been born again will demonstrate that new birth in a careful heeding of the things they have learned and an purposeful walk that will not, in the end, depart from the living God.
