Assyrian Plants

2 Kings 17:33 KJV
They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.

Now here is an amazing thing. These who were sent to occupy the now vanquished land of Israel found themselves marauded by lions and could only attribute it to not appeasing the God of the Land. Assyria therefore sent a priest of Israel (and I assume others to assist him) to teach the people how to practice the worship of the Jews. The Bible says, however, that they did not quit worshipping their false gods but "feared the Lord" and continued in their idolatry.

America appears to be in this same sad state.

We have never been a nation wholly given to God but have always had the foundation of compromised Christianity. Our founding Fathers were, for the most part, unsaved religionists. No doubt that many of them believed in the God of the Bible but most of them were not saved and some of them were deists and worse. America has continued in this "Israelitish" type of Christianity, progressively degenerating a little over two centuries now until the land is, for the most part, overtaken with a different sort of people, people who do not pretend to believe in God. Consequently most of the professing converts to the faith look more like these Assyrian plants; they claim Christianity and the world. In some cases they boast of strong and conservative doctrines, but their lifestyle is worldly in the extreme.

The answer for this compromise is absolute surrender and devotion to the Lord. We must not partake in their admixture of worldliness and faith but make a fair show of Christ through complete separation and godly living.
