Peter 4:19 KJV
Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit
the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
Gill says when we "consider that these are not the
effects of chance, or merely owing to the malice and wickedness of men, or to
any second cause only; but they are the will of God, are by his appointment,
under his direction, and by his order, and for their good, and his own glory;
and therefore it becomes them to, "commit
the keeping of their souls to him, in well doing, as unto a faithful
Creator:"
I cannot help but note the difference of opinion of God
between Gill and people of my generation. The last argument our world would
accept today is that suffering of any sort is the will of God and "for our
good and His own glory." The common opinion is that God has no right or
authority to interpose His will upon us.
God, they believe, if they believe He exists, is free and
welcome to
- Give
them aide in their plans
- Elevate
and bless them
- Advance
their causes
But God, according to the common opinion, has no right to
interfere or to place upon us His will and expectations.
After all, they would think, who is God to press us? They
would have a God who is subject to man or they would have no God at all.
Oh for more who would see God as Sovereign and submit
themselves to Him "for our good and His own glory."
Preacher,
ReplyDeleteYou are right to remind us of this.
I know I need the reminder and
pray that I can submit to HIS
sovereign will even in the midst of
suffering and pain.
...and to do it with the mouth in
submission, also ! :-)
