Take Responsibility to Be Strong in the Lord

Ephesians 6:10 KJV
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Reading the epistles of Paul one is left to see that this Apostle to the Gentiles placed much of the responsibility of our walk on our part and not on the supernatural working of God. He believed in that supernatural work and prayed for it. But he also expected Christians to observe and obey the word of God in order to effect that supernatural work.

He told us to:
  • Mortify the deeds of the flesh
  • Yield not as servants of sin
  • Stand fast in our liberty
and in this passage to, "be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might." This is not wishful thinking or some pious platitude. He then gives us exactly the means to do it; take up the spiritual weapons he describes in the following verses.

Too often we behave like victims of our circumstances or puppets of fate. The fact is that we have all we need to grow as Christians so long as we will give heed to and observe to do what the Bible says.
