Seven Lamps, Seven Spirits and Seven Churches

Revelation 4:5-6 KJV
And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.

John's initial description of the throne in heaven is similar to His first description of Jesus in chapter one verses 12-13. Chapter one ends by telling us the seven golden candlesticks are the seven churches; Jesus being in the midst of them.

Now we have seven lamps before God's throne with two other descriptors;
  • They are lamps of fire and
  • They are burning
We are told these lamps of fire are the seven Spirits of God, also previously mentioned in chapter one.

The two remind me that the tabernacle was made after a heavenly pattern. There is no reason to believe that the church is anything less than a pattern of what exists in heaven. The church serves as a pattern of the heavenly lamp.
  • The Father sits before the churches as the Supreme Overseer
  • The Lord is in the midst giving direction and leadership and it is
  • The Spirit of God that gives it fuel and power for its work.[1]

The churches belong to Jesus Christ. He is her object of love and affection. But her
  • Fire
  • Passion and
  • Anointing
comes from the Holy Spirit.

We must have our eyes fixed upon Jesus Christ and our hearts filled with the Holy Ghost.

[1] That it is the seven Spirits of God merely correlates the ministry of the Holy Spirit to the seven churches and speaks of the sufficiency of the Spirit.
